Australian actor Julian McMahon, best known for his roles in Nip/Tuck and Charmed, has died at the age of 56. His wife, Kelly Paniagua, confirmed that he passed away on Wednesday in Clearwater, Florida, following a battle with cancer.
In a heartfelt statement shared with Deadline, Kelly said, “Julian loved life. He loved his family, friends, fans, and his work. His biggest wish was to bring joy to as many people as possible.”
McMahon first rose to fame playing Cole Turner in the popular supernatural drama Charmed. He later achieved widespread recognition for his role as Dr. Christian Troy in Nip/Tuck. It was a medical drama that aired from 2003 to 2010. His performance earned him a Golden Globe nomination and solidified his place as a prominent television actor.
Reacting to the news, his Nip/Tuck co-star Dylan Walsh expressed deep sorrow: “We rode this wave together, and I loved him. Jules, I know you’d want me to say something to make you smile — all the inside jokes. My heart is with you. Rest in peace.”
Julian McMahon also portrayed the iconic villain Doctor Doom in the Fantastic Four films (2005, 2007) and starred in the CBS crime series FBI: Most Wanted for three seasons. Executive producer Dick Wolf called his passing “shocking news.”
Born to former Australian Prime Minister Sir William McMahon, Julian later portrayed an Australian prime minister in Netflix’s political drama The Residence — one of his final roles.
Julian was married three times, including to Australian singer-actress Dannii Minogue, sister of pop star Kylie Minogue.
Julian McMahon will be remembered for his talent. His charisma, and the lasting impact he made on screen and in the hearts of his fans.
