Former Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal has moved out of his official CM residence on Flag Staff Road after nine years. On Friday afternoon, he shifted to Bungalow No. 5 on Ferozshah Road in Lutyens’ Delhi, which is currently allocated to Ashok Mittal, an AAP Rajya Sabha MP from Punjab.
Welcomed by AAP MP Ashok Mittal
Kejriwal, along with his wife Sunita, parents, and two children, was welcomed by Ashok Mittal and his wife. Mittal shared that Kejriwal has moved into his house temporarily as a guest.
Kejriwal Resigned as CM on September 17
Kejriwal stepped down as Delhi’s Chief Minister on September 17, announcing his intent to vacate the CM residence and give up all government facilities. AAP stated that he is currently looking for a new residence that is free from any controversies.
No Response from Central Government on New House Request
AAP had previously requested the central government to allocate a house for Kejriwal, citing his status as the head of a national party. However, there has been no response from the government.
No Official CM Residence in Delhi
Delhi does not have a designated official residence for its Chief Minister. Each CM selects a bungalow based on convenience. Former CMs have stayed at various locations: Madan Lal Khurana lived at 33 Shamnath Marg, Sahib Singh Verma at 9 Shamnath Marg, and Sheila Dikshit stayed at AB-17 Mathura Road during her first term and 3 Motilal Nehru Marg in her second term.
No Separate Housing Allowance for Former CMs
After stepping down, former Chief Ministers must move to their ancestral, private, or rented accommodations. No separate housing allowance is given for this purpose as it is included in their monthly compensation.
