Due to growing tension with Pakistan, the Indian central government has planned safety drills in 244 districts on May 7. In these drills, people will be trained on how to stay safe during an attack. The goal is to make sure everyone is ready in case a war happens.
The last time such drills happened was in 1971, during the war between India and Pakistan.
Recently, a blackout drill was done in Ferozepur, Punjab, on Sunday night. From 9:00 to 9:30 PM, the electricity was turned off in nearby villages and areas.
On April 22, a big terrorist attack happened in Pahalgam, Jammu and Kashmir, where 26 people died. Since then, the situation between India and Pakistan has become more tense. The government wants to be ready if anything worse happens.
What Are Mock Drills and Blackout Exercises?
- Mock Drill: This is like a practice for emergencies, such as bomb or air attacks. It checks how quickly people and officials respond during such situations.
- Blackout Exercise: This means turning off all lights in an area for some time. This helps hide the area from enemy attacks at night, making it harder for enemies to target places.
